The Story of İncirliev

The story of İNCİRLİEV — which enjoys the sun with its aged, cool stones and ripe fruit trees in the Yeni Mecidiye neighbourhood of Alaçatı — goes back a long way. It all began with a novel that mother Sabahat Poshor read in 1995. Peter Mayle’s book “Hotel Pastis”, set in Provence, once planted the idea of a small hotel in the Poshors’ minds. Father Osman Poshor — renowned for the delicious jams he made under the Aegean sun from the fruit he gladly gathered from the trees during Çeşme summers, especially wild black mulberry — had fallen for this cheerful coastal town because it reminded him of Zonguldak, where he spent unforgettable childhood and youth years with its wild winds and rough sea.

Ten years later, dreams and memories intersected and İNCİRLİEV came to life. What won the Poshors’ hearts were the wild black mulberry in the garden and the protected old fig tree that gives the hotel its name. Çeşme and Alaçatı — where they had come and gone since the 1980s thanks to the Aegean roots on the family’s ladies’ side — inspired the Poshor family to realise their hotel idea. The old Greek house at the centre of this migrants’ neighbourhood, where village life, neighbourliness and friendship adorn everyday life, was loved at first sight. Renovated faithfully to its original, this stone house became İNCİRLİEV and brought new excitement to the family’s life. Sabahat and Osman Poshor decided to move their İstanbul life to this beautiful Aegean town as well; they have lived in Alaçatı since 2008 and are very happy with their decision.
